Itchen Valley Country Park

Youth Options Forest School is excited to offer a wide range of one-day woodland experiences for Early Years, KS1, KS2 and KS3 at Itchen Valley Country Park. We also love to create bespoke sessions for KS4, Colleges and Universities to meet the needs of your group and course.

Our qualified teachers and Forest School practitioners deliver curriculum linked forest activities through to programmes aimed at developing confidence, independence and many more things besides.

Example Woodland Activity Day

School: Inner city Southampton School

Age group: Year 1 curriculum,

Schedule: School groups arrives around 9.45am

Session 1 - 10am to 11am

Session 2 - 11am to 12noon

Lunch (Including opportunities for free play)

Session 3 - 1pm to 2pm

Activities: We split the group and have three lead activities for the children to take part in:

  • Den building (Team building and D&T) Woodwork craft using saws, drills and hammers (D&T)
  • Campfire Cooking - where your food comes from (D&T).  Cooking over the campfire bread (flour crops), milk powder (cows and water), honey (bees), marshmallows (sugar and where it comes from)
  • Woodland activities - Collect leaves, sticks, cones and identify them using a chart. Make a willow hoop and thread them in to make a headdress. Talk about camouflage and paint faces and wear camouflage capes. Play hide ‘n’ seek.
