We’re delighted that Impact, a programme which supports Looked After Children, has been re-funded by Children in Need for the next three years. The funding enables us to run 2 after school sessions per week during the term time and activity days during the school holidays. The sessions provide an invaluable safe space for these children aged 5-12 from similar situations to have fun whilst developing their social and emotional capabilities.
The children were very excited to receive a letter from Pudsey saying that he’d been counting his pocket money and is giving money to Youth Options to make sure they can carry on enjoying Impact for another three years. Pudsey asked the children to have a think about what activities they enjoy most at Impact and what they’d like to do more of in the coming months. While football, making snacks, going on trips and playing games were some of their favourite activities, they also talked about how much they value making friends and how patient the staff are.
We’re just as delighted as the children that Impact has been refunded. We know it makes a real difference to the children who attend. 100% of carers reported that their charges were more confident and more willing to try new things. Over 70% of children said it helped them make decisions, work in a team and made them less likely to give up when they found something hard. It also helped their listening skills and empathy towards others.
