Our Inclusion services are designed to support children and young people in inclusion units in mainstream schools or pupil referral units (PRU). Our services are available to support those from KS3 (ages 11-14) and KS4 (ages 14-16).

Description of services

Courses are delivered to small groups of 6-12 young people in half-term blocks. We have a variety of courses that can be delivered as one off courses or as a series of courses across the academic year. Our services are either half or full day, and can be delivered on or off site. The courses support young people to improve their confidence, communication, better manage their feelings, and improve their resilience and determination. Content is decided through discussion with the inclusion unit or PRU, but our courses include:

Independent Living Skills

  • Employability Skills
  • Teamwork & Problem Solving
  • Social Action
  • Sport & Fitness
  • Healthy Living
  • Communicate 4 Life
  • Respect & Relationships

Young people have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications such as Asdan short courses in English Language, PSHE, Sex and Relationships, Sport and Fitness and Volunteering, as well as more practical accreditations such as Emergency First Aid, Kayaking Level 1, Powerboating Level 1 and the John Muir Award.

Our inclusion services have been developed over more than a decade working in schools and PRUs.

During the period April 2015 – March 2016 our inclusion team supported 64 young
people in Eastleigh and Southampton. These young people achieved 20 accreditations.

From our impact assessments we know that;

  • 82% of young people learnt how to respond to challenges
  • 73% felt better able to communicate with others
  • 64% felt better able to make their own decisions
  • 91% said they would use the skills learnt to get on better at school
